Project Description
City of Oakland’s Community and Economic Development Agency has been spearheading efforts to redevelop the underutilized 12-acre area around MacArthur BART into a transit village. Catherine Chang, first as a project manager for Thomas Dolan Architecture and then later as a partner at andrews + chang, has participated on various developer-led teams and technical advisory committees to develop streetscapes, open space and mixed-use buildings. Her knowledge of Type V over Type I construction podium buildings and the requirements of housing and live-work over retail has been helpful in shaping the different proposals and gaining citizens’ approval over the past 15 years.
