A Kitchen for Musicians and their Trusty Companion

Victorian homes in San Francisco are notorious for extending deep into long property lots cheek to jowl with their neighbors. The rooms in the middle of these homes are often dark and narrow. Our clients had been struggling for years with their existing galley kitchen's lack of light, space to navigate when cooking and multiple ceiling heights (remnant of multiple additions through the decades.

Our first design move created a light shelf to "stitch" together the staggered ceilings and bounce light into the space further. Custom cabinets allowed the clients to carefully budget for every inch. Cabinets were painted to help increase the lightness in the space. A special vase shelf creates a moment of quiet grace when our clients get cooking and their creativity takes over the kitchen.

At the dining room, we integrated a dog home and allowed the floor to swoop in so dog paws contacted reclaimed oak flooring first, a bit more durable to dog nails than the cork in the kitchen.

The other end is anchored by a wine storage and bar.
